Budapest Information

Hungary approx. 10 million; Budapest approx. 1.8 million.

Language spoken:
Hungarian. English is widely understood and spoken in Budapest in shops, restaurants, hotels, by taxi drivers etc.

Moderately dry continental climate. Cold winters and warm/hot summers (during the summer make sure to bring sunglasses and plenty of sun protection lotion).

Time Zone:
GMT +1 - One hour ahead of Irish time.

HUF - Hungarian Forint - approx. exchange rate €1 = HUF 400. For current exchange rates visit: Credit Cards accepted in the shops, hotels, restaurants etc.: Visa, Master Card, Diners Club, American Express

It is customary to give 10-20% tip in restaurants and for taxis.

No immunisation necessary.

Hungary +36; Calling Ireland from Hungary dial +353 followed by the telephone number. Using your mobile phone in Hungary: You can roam with your Irish mobile in Hungary with number of providers. For roaming agreements and call rates check with your provider in Ireland prior to travelling to Hungary as the rates vary from provider to provider and tend to change from time to time.

Visa not needed for Irish citizens to enter Hungary. Valid passport needed for travelling to Hungary.
